A Message From Our Senior Pastor
Dear Fellowship Family:
I was first introduced to Paul Solomon in the Spring of 1973. I heard tales of this new Baptist preacher in town who was holding services at the Seahorse Hotel located in the North End. I heard that the Rev. Solomon was attracted to Virginia Beach as the result of the teachings of Edgar Cayce and I thought to myself: what an interesting combination—the Baptist Church meets the New Age. So I attended my first Fellowship of the Inner Light (FIL) church service and was not disappointed. Beautiful music, inspiring sermon, powerful prayers and meditations.
Thus I began what has now become my thirty-six year (and counting) odyssey with the FIL. For thirty-six years the FIL has been serving the spiritual needs of the Tidewater community. Over the years, I have witnessed, Sunday after Sunday, individuals connecting and communing with God through the medium of community worship. For those who come to the Fellowship seeking God, the Holy Spirit has used our little church as a portal to the infinite. Individuals leave the service feeling spiritually refreshed and renewed. As one person told me, "I continue coming to the Fellowship because it keeps giving me hope."
I am writing you this letter at this time to request your help in enabling our fair church to continue to serve as a beacon of Light and Love in Virginia Beach. During our 2008 calendar year our annual income was approximately ten thousand dollars less than during 2007. Our expenditures during 2008 exceeded our income by approximately six thousand dollars. During the first three months of this year, our expenditures have exceeded our income by approximately two thousand nine hundred dollars. We have now depleted our savings. Our operational budget is struggling and our goal is also to raise approximately four thousand dollars to make necessary repairs on our "cottage," the home behind our main building.
We have only two options to correct our current financial challenges: 1) increase income; and, 2) reduce expenditures. Your Board of Directors is working diligently to implement each of these options. But the Board can not create financial stability for our Fellowship by itself. It requires every member and supporter: 1) to pray and meditate affirmatively upon the financial well being of our Fellowship, envisioning Spirit as meeting all of our needs; and, 2) to continue to support financially a spiritual organization that has been serving God and the spiritual needs of our local community for many years.
Working together in prayerful love and harmony, the Fellowship is guaranteed many more years of service to our community. Will you choose to support the Fellowship during this challenging cycle in the life of our church? If your heart says yes, please consider making a contribution for whatever amount feels right to you. Your love, blessings, and continued financial support of our Fellowship are greatly appreciated.
