What is the Fellowship of the Inner Light?

Dr. Vernon Sylvest suffered four and a half years with an extremely painful inflammatory disease for which he has a genetic marker. The disease was considered incurable. It was not controlled by medication.

After Dr. Sylvest reached the point of suicidal depression, he finally surrendered and sought another way—a spiritual way. Within nine months of his surrender, he was completely well and returned to a happy life. The change was so dramatic that his first wife did not believe at first that it was he. She wondered if he were a "walk-in."

His spiritual search continued, leading to a change in his professional life. He added holistic primary care medicine and spiritual teaching to his practice in pathology. His transformation was recognized by many to be similar to that observed in those who had had a Near-Death Experience.

Dr. Sylvest's first book, "The Formula; Who Gets Sick; Who Gets Well; Who is Unhappy; Who is Happy, and Why," describing his experience, was published in 1996 and has gone through three printings. His second book, "The End of Fear; The Path to Freedom with The Formula," should be available in time for this Sunday Service. Dr. Sylvest's first book-signing is planned for 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Friday, February 3 in the Folio Room of the Virginia Beach Public Library, 4100 Virginia Beach Blvd.

DVDs and Tapes can be found on the racks at the back of the sanctuary by the recording table. Master copies are on file and duplicates can be made in either format.

DVDs and Tapes can be borrowed for three weeks without charge. Please use the folder to sign them out and in.

Fellowship of the Inner Light Lending Library

Fellowship of the Inner Light is hosting a lending library to assist persons on a spiritual search. Books, DVDs, and Tapes may be borrowed without cost. The library includes VHS and DVD copies of worship services, VHS tapes of some speakers from Virginia Beach Friends of IANDS (International Association for Near-Death Studies, and books, many of which contain concepts of New Spirituality. Many of the books and tapes are on loan from the Virginia Beach Friends of IANDS (International Association for Near-Death Studies), and are so noted below.

Below is a listing of books, tapes, and DVDs located in the bookcase in the Upper Room. These are arranged in alphabetical order by last name of author. VHS tapes and DVDs of Joy in Worship Services, and some VHS tapes of VBIANDS speakers are located downstairs near the recording desk at the back of the sanctuary, and are catalogued there. Those are arranged chronologically by date.

You can look over items in the Library before or after the Joy in Worship Service on Sundays. To access the Library during the week call the church in advance at (757) 428-5782. Please sign out all items with your name, date borrowing, and phone number. When you return an item, please write the date returned.
